TAITA-KENYA: Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is expected to tour Coast region today amid the raging debate to have constitution referendum on County funds.
According to organizers of the tour, the Cord leader will address a public rally at Taveta border town and Kwale County on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Raila’s tour comes at a time when Jubilee leaders have made some forays in the region to lure local leaders to support the government.
The tour also comes when a section of Coast leaders resolved to back the government. The ODM leaders among them Kwale Governor Salim Mvuria and MPs Khatib Mwashetani, Zainab Chidzuga and Hasan Manyoa, all from CORD declared to work with the government during the recent tour of the area by Deputy President William Ruto.
The MPs led by Mr Mvuria said they can only deliver promises they made to the electorate by working with the government.
Despite in-roads by Jubilee leaders the region is regarded as ODM stronghold as it overwhelmingly voted for Raila.
Last weekend, Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Wiper MPs visited Taveta district and said CORD Principals will traverse the country preaching peace and unity, adding that they are strongly united and share ideologies.
