Central residents take to the streets to celebrate William Ruto's win

Kahiga accompanied by elected leaders, congratulated the President-elect for winning the petition, and said the focus now shifts to organising the swearing-in ceremony.

"We shall have 50 buses that will be ferrying residents from Nyeri to Kasarani during the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect and his deputy Gachagua," he said.

The governor appealed to election losers who vied on Jubilee Party to join Kenya Kwanza which will form the new government.

Murang'a county residents poured into the streets to celebrate the Supreme Court decision that affirmed Ruto's win. The celebrations were witnessed in Murang'a town, Kenol, and Kangari markets.

In Murang'a town, hundreds of residents convened at 'bunge' (local meeting spot) where special prayers were held after Supreme Court President Martha Koome upheld Ruto's win.

A vehicle belonging to Kiharu-elect MP Ndindi Nyoro mounted with a loudspeaker moved around town playing victory songs.

Benard Kuria, Mathioya UDA coordinator joined the celebrations saying the rule of law has prevailed. "I appreciate the Supreme Court Judges for declaring that Ruto was validly elected after some leaders tried to water down the decision of the people," he said.

Murang'a leaders led by Wairagu wa Maiia and former PS Irungu Nyakera said the will of the people has been upheld.

On their social media platforms, they lauded Ruto's win and called on all Kenyans to support him.

Mr Nyakera congratulated Ruto and termed the Supreme Court verdict historic. "In future, those challenging elections should assemble sufficient evidence instead of subjecting Kenyans to time-wasting," he said.

Former Kiharu MP Ngenye Kariuku congratulated Ruto saying he has the capacity to take Kenya to greater heights.

A section of Meru leaders lauded the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the election of Ruto as the fifth president of Kenya. Led by Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza the leaders said it was the right decision judging by the way Kenyans supported the President-elect.

"Congratulations to the fifth president Dr Ruto Kenyans have won. The door that God opened no one can shut," said Ms Mwangaza.

Imenti North MP-elect Rahim Dawood who was elected on an independent ticket after decamping from the Jubilee Party said the Supreme Court decision was not surprising to him.

"Whatever the Supreme Court has done I think is a good decision. The truth has come out. I request the former PM (Raila Odinga) to accept what the court has done. Let us move forward. He has people who believed in him but with William Ruto, we are saying let us build Kenya it is bigger than any person," said Dawood.
