Experience is what matters in crucial and explosive matches and for one to emerge victorious, patience, resilience and accuracy plays a part in the fight for top honours.
And that's how Geoffrey Kahuria of Buffaloes Franchise managed to beat evergreen and never-say-die Peter Wachiuri of Nairobi Stima 8-4 to lift the Crown Jewels Darts Festivals at Royal Springs Hotel in Nakuru on Sunday night.
Wachiuri admitted having lost to a better player but promised to teach him a lesson at whatever time they'll meet in any tournament
"I lost to an experienced darter. That's all that made him best but I can promise to beat him next time whenever we meet in whatever competition," said Wachiuri.
Kahuria took home Sh 50,000, the biggest prize money so far in the Kenya Darts Association (KDA) Nakuru branch competitions, the second one being Pink Flamingo Franchise Championships hosted at Jacaranda Sports Grill last month.
International Selina Sakawa snatched the ladies top prize of Sh 20,000 after dismissing Agnes Makumi in the finals.
"Darts is very interesting and a big sport just like football and athletics. I appeal to HE President William Ruto to honour us just like he does to the two sporting disciplines," said Sakawa.
It was a tough competition that attracted top darters from Kenya and in the region but at the end of the day, the homeboys swept the board.
"It was a tough match but I played my heart out throughout right from the preliminaries up to the finals," Kahuria told Standard Sports
En route to the finals, Kahuria demolished Samuel Gathura of Nairobi Stima 7-6 in one of the mouthwatering matches of the tournament.
On his part, Wachiuri had an easy in the second semifinal match dismissing Joseph Nguku 6-0.
Royal Darts Club patron Benson Mwangi Wangai promised to have the event be an annual tournament from the success of the inaugural one
"This is an event that we are committed to have it become an annual tournament and next time, we'll make it bigger and better," Wangai told reporters at the prize giving ceremony.
All the first 64 players in the two day tournament went home richer with different cash prizes
