How woman allegedly stole Sh20m from Turkana Senator Lomenen's home on Gachagua's impeachment night

A woman is currently the focus of an investigation into the alleged theft of Sh20 million from Turkana Senator James Lomenen.

On February 9, 2025, three officers raided the home of Trizar Theo Warriong in Kamulu purportedly in search of the missing fortune.

The plot thickened, however, when it was revealed that two of the officers were from Njathaini Police Station in Kiambu County, while the identity of the third officer remains a mystery.

Trizar claims that in the dead of night, the officers barged into her home and demanded the millions, accusing her of stealing the money from Senator James Lomenen on October 18, 2024, the same night that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was impeached.

It is still not clear why the Senator was carrying such a huge amount of money.

Sources reveal that Lomenen, who supported Gachagua’s impeachment and voted yes, had Sh20 million in cash on that day that he took to his Syokimau home, only for the money to go missing.

Police sources have confirmed that on that date, the Senator was indeed in possession of the money, which he brought to his home, only for it to mysteriously disappear. The exact nature of the relationship between the woman and the senator remains unclear.

According to a police report, five individuals forcibly entered Trizar’s home at 10pm, accusing her of stealing the Sh20 million, three of them from Njathaini Police Station allegedly went straight to her bedroom, where they took Sh1.9 million (US$15,000) and Sh200,000 from a suitcase before departing.

Trizar claims the officers then forced her into a silver Toyota Allion, claiming they were taking her to Njathaini Police Station. However, according to the report, instead of heading to the station, the officers took her to various locations, including Kamulu, Ruai, and Mwiki, relentlessly demanding the rest of the supposed stolen money. “They kept shifting from one place to another, pressuring her to hand over the remaining sum,” the report details.

Trizar further alleges that during the ordeal, she was tortured and threatened, before being dropped back home in the early hours of the morning. She later reported the incident to the authorities, who visited her home and launched an investigation.

The two officers from Njathaini Police Station have since been identified as PC Kevin Ombajo and PC David Aduda from Njathaini Police Station, and the vehicle they used has been impounded.

Ruai Sub-County Police Commander Martin Wekesa who confirmed the incident, said; “The officers stormed into the house claiming they were looking for Sh20 million from the lady, even though there is no proof as of now. We have yet to meet the senator to verify the relationship between the two. The investigation is ongoing.”

Senator Lomenen, who was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Turkana South in 2013, served until 2022 when he ran for the seat again. He has been a vocal advocate for infrastructural development in the region, particularly urging the national government to build proper roads for Turkana’s residents.

Recently, he was quoted expressing frustration over the ongoing oil drilling activities in the region, despite the government’s failure to deliver on its promise to build roads.

“Turkana deserves better road connections, just like any other part of Kenya. Development must go hand in hand with resource extraction – no roads, no oil!” Lomenen posted on social media.
