The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating several Nakuru County officials for alleged conflict of interest and embezzlement of public funds.
The probe, initiated by EACC’s South Rift regional office, began on September 2, targeting fraud in the procurement of sports kits valued at Sh27 million.
According to the Commission, some 20 officials are accused of defrauding the county by using proxy companies.
Among those under investigation are Nakuru County Chief Officer for Finance Joseph Malinda, Chief Officer for Sports Alex Maina, and Head of Procurement Annemarie Kuria.
The probe will also include the Finance CEC Iribe Njogu and County Secretary Samuel Mwaura.
The anti-graft agency summoned the officials on Monday and Tuesday this week to provide information about the tender payments for the sports equipment.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi stated that the commission is aware of the public's concern over the alleged fraud and has made the case a priority.
The investigation aims to identify any individuals responsible and pursue prosecution if warranted.
EACC plans to recommend prosecution of the suspects and file civil suits to recover any funds lost.
