Homabay town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma. [Screen Grab;SPICE FM] Homabay town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, says there is need for the government to reshuffle the Principal Secretaries. Speaking on Spice FM on Monday, Kaluma explains that through reshuffle, there will be equality since the exercise will help reduce dominance by people from a particular ethnic group. Speaking on Spice FM on Monday, Kaluma said there is a need to reshuffle Principal Secretaries to stop the dominance of particular ethnic groups. He makes the sentiments come months after President William Rut made a cabinet reshuffle following the nationwide anti-government protests. "There is still a lot we expect to be done from principal secretaries going down. The ethnic formation and dominance by particular communities in various sectors if you go to Principal Secretaries, parastatals going downwards. We cannot have a situation where when it comes to PSs about 50 and you have a single ethnic community at 16 when some have none at all, that engenders the feeling of inequity amongst Kenyans," Kaliuma said. Kaluma has defended his opinion noting that he has been advocating the inclusion of all regions from the people of Kenya. He fell under public scrutiny yesterday when he suggested through his social media post that the position of interior CS should be given to someone from the Luo community. "Let all communities of Kenya get their due constitutional share of public service appointments. The position of Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of the National Government should go to a Luo. Luos are the greatest defenders of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms," Kaluma tweeted. His tweet drew criticism as followers questioned why he was fueling ethnicity some asked what difference his statement was from what the former deputy president was pushing for. In the interview today, Kaluma had a hard time explaining that his statements were different from the impeached DPs. The legislator said that lawfully, one is allowed to advocate for benefits that should accrue to a certain community. "Our constitution entitles all ethnic communities to integrate into government. It allows us to speak about ethnicity to portions of resources in government," he clarified. He reiterated his opinion calling for a consideration of the Luo community when appointing state officials. However, he said that the case of former DP Gachagua was different noting that his removal from office was constitutional. "When you go beyond advocating for shares for ethnic groups which is constitutional to saying people should be excluded then you find yourself at fault of the constitution," he said. With the new DP in place, he hopes for a "More collegial executive from the top" citing the indifferences the president had with his former deputy.
