The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has appointed Anthony Mwaura and Joy Mdivo as the National Elections Board and the Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee chairpersons respectively, for its upcoming nationwide party elections.

According to UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire, the appointments are meant to ensure a smooth election process, during and after.

“The National Steering Committee was sitting to deliberate on the upcoming grassroots elections as well as the constitution of the party organs. UDA is committed to conducting a free and fair grassroots election in all 47 counties,” said Mbarire.

Mwaura currently serves as the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board Chairperson and will lead the seven-member team, deputized by Veronica Kiberenge.

Other members of the National Elections Board include Lydia Munika, Jimmy Kaingi, Mary Mutinga, Halake Dida, and Linda Kiome.

Mdivo on the other hand, serves as Kenya Power’s Board Chairperson and will be deputized by Adrian Kamotho, and will lead a nine-member team comprised of Barbra Japan, Kaberia Isaac, and Yvonne Cherop among others.

The party also appointed Narok Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei as the chair of the Internal Dispute Resolution Committee; whose role will be to resolve any internal issues that may arise from the polls.

The elections will be held in four phases starting on Friday, April 26 to Saturday, August 24.

In phase one, counties like HomaBay, Nairobi, Narok, Busia, West Pokot, and Isiolo will hold their elections.

Later on June 22, the party will conduct its second grassroots election in several counties including Mombasa, Nyandarua, Thara Nithi, Bungoma, Siaya, and Taita Taveta.

The third phase, taking place on August 10 will be held in Kiambu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Muranga, Kericho, Lamu, Nyamira, and Embu counties, among others.

The last phase of the election will be held on August 24 in Nakuru, Nyeri, Bomet, and Kirinyaga counties among others.

Adequate arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth election across the country, thus no need to postpone the elections any further noted Mbarire.

The appointments come following a meeting of the UDA National Steering Committee led by Party Leader President William Ruto, at their Headquarters in Nairobi.

UDA postponed its elections twice in December to April 12, 2024, and later staggered them for another week to April 26
