The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Omerikwa, has been recognised for his contribution to the fight against drug and substance abuse among youths.
Dr. Omerikwa received the "Outstanding Global Personality in Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention" award during the ongoing African Youths Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP) summit in Abuja, Nigeria.
Welcoming the accolade, which he dedicated to youths across the African continent, Dr. Omerikwa noted that the award underscores Kenya's resilient efforts in shaping a drug-free future.
“This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of NACADA and our partners in empowering young people to resist the lure of drugs and embrace their potential," he said on Thursday during his acceptance speech.
The award highlights Dr. Omerikwa’s exemplary contributions to the global fight against substance abuse, according to a NACADA statement.
The AYICRIP summit has convened stakeholders from across Africa to discuss crime prevention, substance abuse, and youth empowerment.
"His leadership in promoting youth development, empowerment, and innovation has made a significant impact across Africa, inspiring young people to lead healthier, drug-free lives," NACADA said.
AYICRIP organizers also praised Dr. Omerikwa for his visionary approach, which incorporates preventive strategies, capacity-building initiatives, and community-driven solutions in combating substance abuse.
