Deputy President Rigathi arrived at the Senate buildings in Nairobi a few minutes after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, ahead of his impeachment trial.

Security has been beefed up, with major roads leading to the Senate in Nairobi manned by armed police officers.

Among the roads affected are Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, and City Hall Way.

Currently, senators are holding a closed-door preparatory session, and thereafter begin hearing.

The 67-member Senate has scheduled a two-day marathon to hear and ultimately determine Gachagua's fate after the National Assembly passed his impeachment motion last week.
