The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has ordered the closure of Ominicare Medical Limited, known as "Body by Design," following the death of Lucy Wambui after a plastic surgery procedure.

Wambui died on October 22 after being discharged from the facility on October 18.

In a statement, Health Principal Secretary Mary Muriuki said, “Following a tragic incident that led to the death of Ms. Lucy Wambui, KMPDC conducted a comprehensive investigation into the facility's practices and standards.”

Muriuki noted that the findings revealed serious non-compliance with medical regulations under Sections 4 and 15 of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act.

The inspection found the facility operating below required medical standards, failing to meet crucial patient safety regulations.

Muriuki added that KMPDC has ordered the immediate closure of the facility to ensure public safety until all necessary corrective actions are implemented.

A thorough investigation is ongoing into the institution and the staff involved in Wambui's treatment.

The Council is assessing culpability and determining appropriate actions to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents of malpractice.

“The State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards through KMPDC remains committed to upholding the highest standards of healthcare across Kenya,” said Muriuki
