Former Tusker Project Fame (TPF) star Peter Msechu has undergone gastric bypass surgery in a bid to get rid of excessive weight.
Speaking in a Twitter Space, Msechu said he has had weight issues for a while due to poor eating habits but he was now back on track and had lost 27 kilograms.
"When I was young I used to tell my parents that I would buy my sacks of rice so that I can eat the way I want.
"I used to see this as a very valuable thing but in the long run, this made me gain a lot of weight,” he said.
He shared that he loved sugary foods and chips, and even desired the food that was being given to his children.
“It reached a point when I saw my kids being given good food, I also wanted that food,” Msechu admitted. “In the end, this gave me health issues.”
Msechu initially had an intragastric balloon procedure in 2023 and lost 30kgs in the process but gained weight soon afterwards.
Gastric bypass
Gastric Bypass causes weight loss by restricting the amount of food and reducing the absorption of the calories in the food you eat.
The stomach is divided into a small "pouch" in which food enters, and one large "remnant stomach" through which the food no longer passes.
This "excluded" part of the stomach remains in the body and continues to produce helpful digestive juices, which meet the food further downstream.
The upper, smaller "pouch" holds a smaller amount of food than before, and is connected directly to a portion of the small intestine, bypassing the larger part of the stomach created by the procedure.
Changes can be seen within three months although some have complained of body aches, nausea and vomiting during that period.
