Agoro Sare High School on Tuesday joined perennial basketball heavyweights Dagoretti High School and defending champions Laiser Hill with important wins as the Brookside KSSSA national Term One games kicked off at Machakos Boys High School.

The Nyanza Region basketball royalty withstood a brave attack from Western Region champions Sigalame Boys, coming back from behind to win 58-49.

Led by captain Ghaal Akech, Agoro Sare reminded doubter that they are no easy push overs in Group B as they prepare to face off against Dr Aggrey on Wednesday.

Laiser Hill came from behind to edge out Lukenya 73-69 to kick of their basketball title defense as they take charge of Group A.

Eastern Region champions Lukenya led 19-12 in first quarter before Laiser rallied 22-11 in the second quarter to lead 34-30 at half time.

A monster 26-20 third quarter show by Laiser Hill saw the Rift Valley champions open a 10-point gap with a quarter left as they led 60-50.

Lukenya’s 19-14 fourth quarter show did little to harm the defending champions lead as Laiser Hill won 73-69.

In the same group, Nairobi champions Dagoretti High School made their intentions of winning the national finals clear after thumping Sabunley Secondary School 129-35.

Dagoretti led 61-14 at the break after a monster 37-12 and 24-2 first and second quarter shows before closing out the game in the last two quarters which they dominated 41-10 and 27-11 respectively.

Defending basketball girl’s champions Butere Girls saw off Nyanza representatives Nyakach Girls’ 65-50 to also kick start their title defense on a high note.
