Varsity banks on automation to curb cases of missing marks

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has automated all processes and systems in a bid to enhance accountability and curb cases of students missing marks.

Addressing the Press, MMUST Council Chairperson Pamela Sitienei, said they automated education management system to provide a number of services including admission, fees management and online hostel application.

"Currently, one will not require travelling to the university to obtain their transcripts, you just need internet connectivity and you are good to go. Additionally, automation and digitisation will ensure accountability and efficiency, thereby ensuring the university is not losing money through fraud or corruption," she said.

Dr Sitienei assured that manipulation of marks will be a thing of the past through the automated system.

MMUST has also made efforts to embrace digital transformation, including Partnering with Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) to collaborate on research, innovation, career development, and community outreach.

The partnership aims to accelerate the digital transformation of the Kenyan economy.

"We have been able to pay Kenya Revenue Authority and we were recognised for being able to meet our financial obligations," she said.

On global partnership, the university has partnered with the United States of America and Germany in innovation and research.

"MMUST) has emerged as a global leader in innovation, clinching the top position in the prestigious International Innovation Academy competition. The University was also awarded the coveted first place in the international category of the competition held in St. Petersburg, Russia, showcasing its excellence in scientific research and technological advancements," she said.
