Former Bungoma South MP Lawrence Sifuna dies

Lawrence Sifuna, a former Member of Parliament for Bungoma South and Bumula constituencies is dead.
Sifuna died at a hospital in Eldoret where he was receiving treatment after suffering a stroke a few days ago.
His death was confirmed by his relative, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who posted a message of condolence on his X account.
"Hon. Lawrence Sifuna, former MP Kanduyi and Bumula Constituencies left us last night whilst receiving treatment at an Eldoret Hospital following a stroke he suffered a few days ago. As a Family we are grateful for all the messages of love that we continue to receive. May God Bless you all," he wrote.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, of which Sifuna was a life member, also mourned his demise on its X platform.

"We commiserate with the family of our SG @edwinsifuna, friends and relatives following the loss of the Hon. Lawrence Sifuna. Hon. Sifuna was a Life Member of the ODM party. He is a former MP for Bungoma South Constituency (presently Kanduyi) & also Bumula. May his soul RIP," the party stated.
Sifuna was first elected to Parliament in 1979 and served until 1988, when he lost the seat to former North Eastern Provincial Commissioner Maurice Makhanu.
He was among the left-wing MPs in the 1980s, popularly known as the seven bearded sisters, who persistently attacked Attorney General Njonjo and the government for policies that undermined Kenyans' rights.
His fellow comrades in the group were Koigi wa Wamwere, James Orengo, Abuya Abuya, Chibule wa Tsuma, Onyango Midika, Mwashengu wa Mwachofi and Philomena Chelangat Mutai.
