Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has called on Western leaders to rally behind his National Assembly counterpart Moses Wetang'ula.
Kingi said Wetang'ula has political experience and the region is safe in his hands.
“Political unity is paramount for our nation's progress, and Moses Wetang'ula brings a wealth of experience to the table. With this man, 'Papa wa Roma,' the Western region is safe,” he said.
However, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala urged leaders to refrain from premature succession politics.

“We shall not plan about 2032 when we have unemployed youths and poverty in the Western region. Let us concentrate on helping the president deliver his mandate,” said Malala.
“We must prioritize the current challenges facing our nation over speculative politics. The 2032 presidential elections are far off, and our focus should be on addressing immediate issues impacting the lives of our citizens,” he added.
However, Wetang'ula played down the political tension and called on leaders and citizens to support the government in reducing the cost of living.
“Trans Nzoia is the food basket of Kenya, and we encourage leaders to stop politicking and unite citizens,” he said.
Ford Kenya deputy leader and Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi assured residents of the elected leader's unity.
“We are part and parcel of the Kenya Kwanza government and strongly support President William Ruto. After his retirement, we will have Wetang'ula as our presidential candidate in 2032,” said Wanyonyi.
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha told Western leaders to respect Wetang'ula saying: “Some leaders in the Western region should not behave as if they are above Wetang'ula. Even I am not equal to him.”
Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau urged Malala to collaborate with Speaker Wetang'ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, emphasizing the need for unity.
“You have to plan for tomorrow, and Wetang'ula is on the right track. We must support him,” insisted Bisau.
Webuye West MP Martin Pepela urged the electorate to elect Ford Kenya candidates in the 2027 General Election to bolster Wetang'ula's ambitions to become the 6th president.
