The breathtaking view of Chepkiit waterfalls in nandi

Located 2.7km from Mlango area off a rough road from the Eldoret-Kapsabet-Kisumu Road in Nandi County, flows the breathtaking Chepkiit waterfalls.

This is one of nature's jewels in the deep ends of Nandi County.

It's 25 kilometers and 40 minute-drive from Eldoret town, and just two kilometers from Eldoret International Airport.

It is a perfect place for enjoying the natural sounds of water gushing down, with the rocky edge of the cliff acting as a stage for a spectacular interplay of nature's liquid and solid offerings.

However, be careful, a single misstep can be fatal. 'Chepkiit', in Kalenjin, means 'view from a far', a direct and stark reminder of the perils that come with being near the falls.

I recently got the opportunity to visit the waterfall, which is associated with grim tales.

Entry to the waterfall is Sh200 for adults, Sh500 for foreigners, Sh100 for children and Sh50 for special groups above 30 people - both children and adults.

"The place is frequented by lovers, students, tourists and artists who come to shoot videos. It is also good for picnics, bird watching and hiking in the forest. It is open Monday to Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm," said Gilbert Menjo, who is in charge of the site.

He says Kipkaren River is the source of the water that flows here.

"We have secured the waterfall with wires and metallic barriers to avoid accidental falls," he said.
