NCIC urged to act against Moses Kuria over abuse of Naivasha MP

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has been challenged to take action against former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria following his tirade of abuse against Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara.

Leaders from Nakuru county and members of the Naivasha GBV cluster groups termed the abuse against the MP as disrespect to the women fraternity in the country.

On Sunday, the outspoken legislator took to the Social media abusing the third term MP while alleging that she was ailing and was responsible for the death of her husband in 2003.

Addressing the press in Naivasha, the leaders termed the sentiments by Kuria as reckless warning that they were ready to seek legal redress on the issue.

According to Naivasha East MCA Stanley Karanja, this was not the first time that the former Gatundu South MP had abused women leaders in the country.

While condemning the statement by Kuria, he said that they were following keenly to see if NCIC would take any action.

“We are deeply perturbed by the abuse from Kuria targeting our MP and we are calling on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to act,” he said.

While terming Kuria as a political failure, Karanja said that they would not be intimidated by politicians who had been rejected by the electorate and even the government.

This was echoed by former Viwandani MCA Eunice Mureithi who said that they fully backed the Naivasha MP and her political stand.

She questioned the anger and hatred directed to Kihara by Kuria yet they were not serving in the same government or political parties.

“We are asking Kuria to be man enough and deal with fellow men instead of attacking elected leaders yet he was rejected by the masses,” she said.

On his part, the Chairman, Naivasha GBV Cluster Group John Kinuthia termed the sentiments by Kuria as reckless and bordering on hate speech.

“We are calling on the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) and other human rights groups to come out and condemn the reckless statements by the former CS,” he said.

On her part, one of the women leaders, Cate Munyaka lashed out at Kuria for disrespecting women adding that Kihara was a mother and a leader who should be respected.

“This is not the first time that Kuria is attacking women and it seems he has a big problem and he should be put to task over his reckless statements,” added Simon Peshi, a youth leader.
