A Kabarnet court has found a woman guilty of killing her niece by throwing her to the floor at Baringo County Hospital.
The accused, Cheparsip Kunia, is alleged to have tossed her 10-day-old niece Chepkopis Ling’ari on the floor where she was admitted on December 31, 2021.
Justice Rachel Ngetich while delivering the judgment last week said Kunia had intended to kill the infant following the nature of the injuries inflicted.
“The evidence adduced by the prosecution witnesses prove beyond reasonable doubt malice aforethought on the part of the accused,” Justice Ngetich said.

Vincent Kipchenger, a nurse at the hospital testified that he was on duty attending to Kunia’s sister-in-law who was sick after delivery. At the time, he said Kunia was holding the baby.
“ I heard noises, and I rushed to the ward only to find the deceased down, and patients were holding Kunia,” he said.
An X-ray revealed the baby had sustained brain damage.
