Police crackdown on illegal liquor outlets near schools in Kitengela

Police in Kitengela, Kajiado County, have detained five individuals suspected of operating illegal liquor businesses near educational institutions.

The arrests were made during a raid led by Kitengela Police Chief David Ole Shaani and Kajiado County Ward Administrator Bruce Likama.

In addition to the five suspects, over thirty individuals were taken into custody for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

They are currently being held at the Kitengela police station, pending court proceedings.

The law enforcement action was prompted by local residents' concerns about the proliferation of unlicensed alcohol outlets in close proximity to primary and secondary schools.

In a letter to the area security committee, the residents pointed out that there are more than six schools in the area, and the presence of these outlets poses a significant threat to students.

The letter read, "These structures have proven to be a security threat as they are also affecting the health of our youth who spend the day inhaling the toxicity of alcohol and cannabis among other illegal substances."
