Why Orengo, Babu Owino want to hire own 'protection'

Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East Member of Parliament  Babu Owino have hinted at hiring their own security to protect themselves from goons.

The two were speaking at a press conference on Tuesday where they said that the heightened attacks at their rallies may result in them resorting to other unorthodox measures.

“If the police cannot protect us, we may be justified to have militias because the response to it is if they can’t take care of us, then we must take care of ourselves.” Orengo said.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino reiterated the remarks saying that they are ready to respond in the event need be. 

“If the police can’t defend and protect us, we will be forced to protect ourselves and to defend ourselves and at no time shall we give you space to attack us. We are ready for you.”

The justification for this, according to them, was the fact that their rallies are being attacked, people are losing lives and property is being destroyed.

Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi on Sunday asked young people in the Central region to resist being used by the current regime after the goon attack in Nyahururu.

“We are calling young people of Mount Kenya. Gather, organize yourselves and deal with this crooked regime.” He said.

The remarks were received with harsh scrutiny from Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi who distanced himself from the remarks via his X page on Sunday.

“Calling for Mungiki and Mountain youths to rise up for war is working in the hands of Ruto. As the founder of Linda Mwananchi I wish to de-associate the movement from the sentiments in this clip. We must show leadership in the midst of crisis. Kenyans must see the difference between us and Ruto.” He posted.

Orengo also alleged that the police were working with the goons arguing that they took a long time before they assembled themselves to combat the goons.

The governor also claimed that the group that attacked them in the church was the same group that attacked Vihiga senator Godfrey Osostsi at a hotel in Kisumu on 8th April.
