Gachagua: Our priority is to unseat Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says the opposition's main focus ahead of the 2027 General Election is to unseat President William Ruto.

Speaking at his Karen residence in Nairobi while hosting Kamba vernacular radio stations, Gachagua said he was rallying like-minded political leaders from across the country to push for a leadership change.

"Currently, we [opposition] are not preoccupied with who becomes the presidential flag bearer in the next General election. Our priority is to unite our people and ensure more Kenyans register as voters. That is the most important thing in ensuring we send this fellow [Ruto] home," said Gachagua.

He added that opposition leaders, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i (Jubilee), People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, had agreed to develop a foolproof strategy for ousting the current administration.

"We are all speaking the same language. Our mission is to unite Kenyans and present to them a formula that will get rid of the current regime," he said.

Gachagua dismissed his impeachment, calling it a 'blessing in disguise.'

"I am even grateful Ruto got me impeached. I have grown more popular than and now I have the freedom to engage Kenyans and tell them what is bedeviling our country."

He vowed to expose corruption networks within the government, claiming he had damning evidence on key programs.

"I have dossiers on SHA, E-citizen, and housing levy, which I will soon release to Kenyans. From that, Kenyans will now know what to do with the information," added Gachagua.

Kenya's diplomatic standing

The former DP also criticised the country's foreign policy, calling it a "systemic failure" driven by selfish interests.

"The reason our country is facing a diplomatic crisis is because selfish interests have bungled our foreign policy. If we are just in our second year and we have plenty of problems, in ten years we will have no country," he said.
