Nyong'o thankful as Ruto promises more projects after State House visit

Kisumu is staring at another round of development windfall after President William Ruto committed to implementing several multimillion-shilling projects in the lakeside city.

This follows a visit by a delegation of leaders from the region led by Governor Anyang' Nyong'o to State House, in a similar pursuit that also won Siaya Governor James Orengo several projects.

Among the projects the President on Wednesday committed to Kisumu are the gazetting of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital as a Level 6 Hospital, a move that will significantly enhance healthcare services for the people.

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o has said his visit to State House has netted development goodies worth hundreds of millions of shillings.

"I am thrilled to share the incredible outcomes. I extend my deepest gratitude to President Ruto for his unwavering commitment and positive reception to our proposals," he said.

Nyong'o noted that the President's dedication to Kisumu's growth was evident through a series of transformative pledges that will undoubtedly reshape our county's future.

He noted that the President further allocated Sh1.3 billion towards the construction of the Kabonyo-Kanyagwal Aquaculture Fisheries Project, which is a game-changer for the local economy and food security.

"He also committed to fast-tracking the completion of critical infrastructure projects, including the Mamboleo-Miwani Road, Awasi-Katito Road, and Holo-Lela Road, which will improve connectivity and trade," said Nyong'o.

According to Nyong'o, the President also committed to setting aside Sh700 million to boost rice farming in Nyando Sub-County, which will empower the farmers and strengthen the county's agricultural backbone.

"Approving additional affordable housing at Kanyakwar, ensuring more Kisumu residents have access to decent homes. Progressing the Naivasha-Malaba Standard Gauge Railway through Kisumu, positioning our county as a key logistical hub and committing Sh800 million towards the construction of a ferry at Kenya Shipyard Limited - Kisumu, enhancing lake transport and economic activities were also committed by the President," added Nyong'o.

Other projects are the construction of the Robert Ouko Kenya School of Government in Nyahera and allocating funds for the equipping of the modern Kisumu County Assembly.

He noted that the President also committed to providing Sh900 million for last mile connectivity, bringing electricity to more households across the county, among others.

"These commitments represent a massive step forward for Kisumu County. They underscore a collaborative spirit between the national and county governments, focused on delivering tangible benefits to our residents," he added.

Nyong'o expressed his commitment to working closely with the national government to ensure the swift implementation of these projects.

Ruto, in a statement, said that his administration has resolved that no region or community will be left behind in the quest to transform the country.
