Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization has challenged women in Nyanza to join savings and credit co-operative societies (Saccos).

Speaking during Rachuonyo East Entrepreneur Sacco's annual general meeting (AGM) in Kabondo Kasipul, chairperson Rahab Muiu and area MP Eve Obara said Saccos transform livelihoods.

“Saccos have improved the lives through the financial services they offer. I urge women in Nyanza region to join Saccos,” said Muiu.

According to Dr Obara, one of the reasons hindering the fight against poverty is the failure to save.

“Saccos inculcate the spirit of savings culture among communities. Some Saccos also have health insurance programs.  I urge my fellow women to join Saccos,” said Dr Obara.

The MP added that Saccos provides opportunities for wealth creation and enhances the dignity of borrowers.

“Saccos enable people to become wealth creators through business ventures,” she said. “A Sacco enables one to borrow funds with dignity because they lend the amount of money one applies for based on their savings.”

The leaders also taught residents about healthcare by encouraging them to embrace the use of Sawa Water Can to purify water. Water in the can is boiled in the sun for at least four hours to kill germs.
