Brace for heavy rains and strong winds- weatherman

Parts of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin will experience heavy rainfall through Tuesday, the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned.

The agency said the intensity is likely to ease on Wednesday next week, but strong winds will sweep across the eastern part of the country.

Counties placed on high alert include Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu, Bomet, Kakamega, Baringo, Nyeri, Meru, Kiambu, Murang’a, Busia, Kisii, Nyamira, and others.

“Residents in these areas should be on the lookout for flash floods and poor visibility,” the department said in a notice on Saturday.

It also warned that strong winds could cause damage, including blowing off roofs and destroying structures.

“People living downstream of rivers and along seasonal rivers should be careful, as water may rise suddenly even when it is not raining,” the notice added.

The warning comes after weeks of cold, chilly weather across much of the country.
