Police deny arresting former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi

Police have denied reports that they have arrested former Limuru Member of Parliament Peter Mungai Mwathi following the fracas that ensued during a burial in Limuru where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was also in attendance.

Police Spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango said in a press statement that the former legislature is also not a person of interest to the police in the already commenced investigations.

"DCI Limuru has commenced investigations into the matter to establish the cause of the fracas and bring to book, the perpetrators behind this insensitive act. The Officers are currently on the ground recording statements from family members of the deceased," the statement read in part.

At the same time, police have stated that they have only received one complaint following the incident that left scores injured after unknown individuals started hurling objects, and chairs forcing mourners to scamper for safety at the Bibirioni Boys High School, Limuru.

"Consequently, property of unknown number and value were damaged, but so far, we have received a report from only one complainant," police said.

The authorities are now calling upon anyone with information that may aid the arrest of the suspects who invaded the burial to report to the nearest police station.

Gachagua who was driven out of the venue under a hail of stones, claims that the government was behind the incident.

"This is a very sad state of affairs and a major low for the State, who were complicit in these actions. We will not be scared away from standing with Kenyans who need us to support them in their moments of need," Rigathi stated on his X platform.
