EACC recovers billions in assets, hands over to Ruto

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered assets worth billions across the country, its Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak announced during a handover ceremony at State House, Nairobi.

"The Commission has recovered approximately 35 titles covering 18.71 acres, with a total value of Sh5 billion," Mbarak said.

Of the Sh5b, some assets valued at Sh511 million are in cash, while the rest consist of movable assets illegally acquired in various counties.

Notable recoveries include 15 parcels of land valued at Sh135 million in Kisii County, and an acre of land at Uasin Gishu Referral Hospital worth Sh700m.

Other valuables include a prime half-acre plot in Kilimani, valued at Sh700 million, 1.8 acres belonging to Kisumu Law Courts, and three parcels of land in Eldoret owned by the National Police Service.

President William Ruto lauded the EACC for its efforts in retrieving said assets, noting the Commission's vital role in fighting corruption.

Ruto also highlighted that corruption undermines service delivery and hampers the government's ability to execute development projects.

The President further called on all institutions, including county governments, to cooperate with the anti-graft agency in the ongoing fight against corruption.
