The Association of Muslim Lawyers is now calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI to commence sexual harassment charges against Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Ken Ng'ondi following a video of him forcefully shaking hands with a Muslim woman at an event.
In a press statement, the Association demanded immediate commencement of criminal charges against the Speaker who in the 41 seconds and now viral video is seen forcing the Muslim lady to stand from her seat and shake hands amid laughter from those present.
"Such reprehensible behavior is criminal, unethical, immoral and not only violated her religious beliefs but also a grave violation of bodily autonomy and dignity," the statement read in part.
Most Muslim women prefer not to shake hands with men due to modesty and maintaining physical boundaries and believe that physical contact with the opposite sex is unnecessary, discouraged, and for some, even prohibited.
