Senior police officer based in Kiambu dies in a road accident in Kitui

A senior police officer based in Limuru in Kiambu County died on Friday night in a road accident just a few kilometres from Kitui town.
Philip Mwania, senior superintendent of police (SSP) and who was the Limuru sub-county police commander died instantly around the River Nzeeu bridge along the Kitui - Mutomo road.
His car collided head-on with a lorry. Kitui County police commander Leah Kithei said the accident occurred at 11.30pm.
It is believed that the deceased was travelling to his rural home in Nzambani sub-county, Kitui when the accident happened.
His car, a Toyota fielder that collided with a Mitsubishi FH lorry was extensively damaged at the front side. He was alone.

"He was driving towards Chuluni from Kitui general direction and on reaching the location of the accident he lost control of the motor vehicle and swerved to the opposite lane where he collided head-on with the said lorry which was being driven to the opposite direction," a police report detailed the circumstances of the accident.
The body was moved to Kitui County referral hospital mortuary while the two vehicles were towed to Kitui police station as investigations got underway.
