Wanjohi engineers his way to victory in Nakuru

As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, Britam Holdings will partner with the Nakuru Golf Club to plant 60 million trees within the next five years.

The Group CEO, Tom Gitogo, announced this milestone during the prize-giving dinner for the seventh edition of the Britam Golf series held at the scenic 18-hole layout over the weekend.

"We are eager to collaborate with Nakuru Golf Club and the other clubs in our mission to plant 60 million trees as part of these ongoing celebrations," said Gitogo. "Let's explore how we can work together. Britam can't plant the 60 million trees on its own, but we can help facilitate planting these trees."

He also thanked the NGC competition committee, led by Golf Captain, Michael Mululu and Nakuru Golf Club staff (greens-keeping, hospitality, overall tournament organisation).

On the course, despite a rocky start, Francis Wanjohi scored 41 stableford points to win the Nakuru Britam golf series, outperforming 217 other golfers who participated.

Wanjohi, playing off a handicap of 20, blanked the first hole but managed to rally and secure the winning score.

"I had a bad start, but somehow I found my footing along the way and ended up with the winning score," he said.

Patrick Matindi, playing off handicap 19, secured the Men's winner prize with a score of 38 stableford points. Joram Njuguna followed closely in second place with 37 stableford points, while Hussein Hassanali took the prize with 36 stableford points.

In the ladies competition, Alice Kirubi chalked 38 stableford points to claim victory, playing off handicap 20. Teresia Muturi posted 36 stableford points to finish second, while Nyambura Muigai was third with a score of 35 stableford points.

Charles Terer was the best among the visiting golfers, carding 43 stableford points to clinch the Guest prize, while playing off handicap 26. The Britam Staff winner prize went to Cyrus Kivuti with a score of 34 stableford points.

In the seniors category, Dipak Shah, playing off handicap 12, won the Senior prize with a score of 35 stableford points while Heeran Kipkurui bagged the Junior Prize with 32 stableford points.

In the commercials, Mwaura Muiru blasted his tee shot on the par-four 14th hole to win the Longest Drive Men prize, as Alice Kirubi was back on the podium as the Longest Drive Lady winner.
Tom Gitogo won the Nearest to Pin Men prize, and no lady attempted the feat in their category.
