Tributes pour in for fallen ex-UoN Chancellor Joe Wanjui

Dr. Joseph Barrage Wanjui, former Chancellor of the University of Nairobi (UoN) and a prominent businessman, has died, aged 87.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure,” his family wrote.
Dr Wanjui died at his home after a long illness.
UoN Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama condoling with the university fraternity, described Dr. Wanjui as a dedicated individual whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the institution, as well as the broader education and corporate sectors.
"The University of Nairobi community mourns Dr. Wanjui's passing and remembers him with profound respect and admiration. He was a remarkable leader who devoted his life to public service," Prof. Kiama stated.

Appointed as the first civilian Chancellor in 2003 by the late former President Mwai Kibaki, Dr. Wanjui was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree by the University in 2004 in recognition of his significant contributions to business and industrial development.
"In that same year, he established the Joe B. Wanjui Education Trust, which has provided scholarships to over 500 bright and needy female students across Kenya,” noted Prof Kiama.
Funeral arrangements are underway.
