Government accused of disrupting Gachagua's return from US

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of scuttling former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's recent return from the United States.

Speaking in Kangundo, Mwangangi wondered whether the government considered Gachagua a serious security threat to the extent of mobilising goons to disrupt his planned grand return home.

"This is an indication of a government that has lost its credibility to the point of tormenting an innocent and harmless person like Gachagua whose main mistake is to become politically popular," he said.

According to the Deputy Governor, the security machinery marshaled against Gachagua should have been channeled elsewhere, like in areas hit by endless cattle rustling.

He said such unwarranted action painted a negative image of an ailing government that has failed in its mandate and responsibility. Mwangangi challenged the government to focus on streamlining education and health sectors.

"Despite schools opening this week, many parents are unable to release their kids to schools owing to the current economic status they are facing," he noted.

Mwangangi faulted the government for prioritising unnecessary expenditure on unworthy projects at the expense of education of millions of children.

"What is being witnessed is shocking with government operatives going everywhere dishing out monies to seek political favour while the education sector is ailing with the capitation money having been diverted to serve political goals," he said and demanded that the government should come clear on education funding it promised.
