Kindiki: Women are the backbone of Kenya's future

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on women to take a greater role in shaping Kenya's future by instilling discipline, cultural values and good behaviour in the next generation.

Kindiki noted that women's role in nurturing children directly influences the nation's stability and prosperity, urging them to remain anchors of moral guidance.

'We respect our women for the sacrifices they make to nurture children from the day they are born to respected members of society,' said Kindiki, adding, 'I plead with you to continue nurturing and supporting our children and the young adults so they can be better people and not outcasts engaging in bad behaviours,' he added.

He spoke on Wednesday, August 13, during consultations with more than 3,500 women from Tharaka Nithi County at his home in Irunduni.

Kindiki observed that cultural values risk being eroded by modern lifestyles and urged parents to take the lead in passing down respect and discipline.

'There was a way we were taught to behave as children in school, at home and among elders and those older than us. We should not lose our culture. I beseech you to continue instilling respect, discipline and good behaviour in our children because they cannot learn this better than from their parents,' he explained.

The Deputy President also assured the gathering of the government's commitment to equitable development across all regions, including Tharaka Nithi.

'I will work hard and I will not embarrass you. I am working day and night because I don't want to let you down. That is why you see me in every part of Kenya assisting the President serve all Kenyans. I am a servant of all Kenyans, not only my region. But as I serve Kenyans, I will not forget Tharaka Nithi because it is part of Kenya,' he stated.

Ongoing government projects in the county include revival of stalled roads, completion of long-abandoned works, expansion of electricity connections with Sh 1.2 billion allocated for last-mile connectivity, and construction of modern markets.

'We will do a lot of electricity connection in the county to put it on the same level as other counties,' he noted. 'We are doing our best to ensure Tharaka Nithi is part of the nation's development,' he added.
