Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Lands, Physical Planning, and Housing, Janet Kosgei, has been arrested over multiple allegations of extortion.
Kosgei was apprehended on Wednesday by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) North Rift officials and is currently being held at Eldoret Central Police Station.
EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi stated that the arrest followed numerous public complaints accusing Kosgei of demanding bribes ranging from Sh100,000 to Sh300,000 to process land matters.
At the time of her arrest, Kosgei had allegedly demanded Sh120,000 from a citizen seeking her signature on a land lease document. She was apprehended after receiving a Sh50,000 deposit as part of the demanded amount.
Ngumbi added that the arrest is part of a broader investigation into allegations of extortion within the county.
