Police in Siaya County have gunned down two suspects and recovered two rifles from the scene, following a fire exchange in Awinga, Siaya County.
Police say the two are believed to be part of a gang that attacked and shot security officers escorting national (KCSE) examination papers on Monday.
In a tweet by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, one of the suspects is in custody but another is still at large.
"Led by Operations and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau detectives, the deployment that acted on a forensic trail pursued the criminals in Busia and Siaya counties, catching up with them at a two-roomed house in the Awinga area of Siaya," DCI says.

"Police believe that one armed suspect escaped, while another person of interest has been placed in custody to assist in the ongoing investigations,"
The officers have also said that 44 live rounds, 16 spent cartridges, assorted mobile phones, crude weapons, daggers, machetes, military fatigues, and several Islamic literature books were also recovered.
The investigations began after two police officers and Mahero Secondary School head were attacked by unknown assailants.
They were on their way to deliver the exam papers to candidates when the assailants opened fire on them, killing one officer, injuring the other, and fled the scene.
The assailants also disappeared with the officers' firearms.
One suspect is still at large. Investigations are still underway.
