Deputy President elect Kithure Kindiki received President William Ruto in Kwale on Saturday, October 20, ahead of the country's 61st Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Kindiki welcomed the Head of State at the Kwale County Commissioner's office, where Ruto arrived aboard a Kenya Airforce helicopter with First Lady Rachel Ruto.
This marks Kindiki's first public appearance since the National Assembly voted him as Rigathi Gachagua's replacement.
His swearing-in remains pending due to a court order barring him from assuming office. It remains unclear whether Kindiki received Ruto in his capacity as Deputy President elect or as the Interior Cabinet Secretary.
Meanwhile, impeached Deputy President Gachagua did not attend the event in Kwale but posted a message on his official X page, wishing all Kenyans a happy Mashujaa Day.
