A survey by CNN revealed that the focus that topped New Year resolutions was health (37%); not family, work, or finances as one would expect. Health is defined as a state of being free from illness or injury or being in good physical and mental condition.
John the Evangelist and author of epistles 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John write to his friend Gaius, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers" (3rd John 1:2). We must all learn to take care of ourselves the best way we can if we wish to achieve our destiny and serve the Lord. In recent years, issues of obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, and other chronic diseases have exploded to almost pandemic proportions not only in Kenya but also around the world. Researchers predict that by the end of this decade, 20 million people a year will die from infectious diseases and 50 million from weight-related diseases, especially diabetes and heart diseases. These figures are worrying, hence the importance of healthy living.
