Over 2,500 cyclists to converge in Nairobi for competition in September

Over 2,500 cyclists are set to converge in Nairobi for a cycling competition on September 29.

The competition known as Jubilee Live Free Race will be the third edition of its kind, organised by Jubilee Insurance Group and the Grand Nairobi Bike Race (GNBR).

The competition will bring cyclists from 21 countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Eritrea, the USA, and France.

This year’s edition will include six categories: 60 km main race, 12 km family fun ride, 48 km black mamba ride, 2 km kiddies’ race, 48 km para-cycling race, and 60 km team race for teams of 6 riders.

According to Jubilee Insurance Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Caroline Ndungu, the event will harness the freedom inherent in cycling to raise awareness about practical steps that individuals and the broader community can take for a well-rounded life.

It will also include conversations on prioritizing health and financial planning while demystifying insurance and its role in safeguarding wellness, managing risk, and growing wealth.

“We are excited about the third edition, not only for the platform it provides for competition and fun but also for its role in fostering conversations that inspire behavioral change and drive meaningful societal impact. We look forward to raising the profile of this event with the ambition of transforming it into a Tour de Kenya,” Ms. Ndungu said.

To achieve that, the Insurer has pumped Sh20 million into the event — Sh10 million in cash and an additional Sh10 million in advertising and promotion.

Reiterating her remarks, GNBR director Loice Wachira said they are looking forward to an extra exciting race as has been the case in the last two editions.

“This year’s race will not only offer cyclists a chance to showcase their skills and be recognized for their achievements but also provide families with memorable opportunities to bond and participate in engaging activities,” said Wachira.
