In a County with more than 55,000 boda boda riders, the fight for customers normally leaves them struggling to raise money to repay Bank and Sacco that they borrowed to procure the motorbikes.
Kisii town alone has more than 6,000 boda boda operators fighting for space to conduct their space.
Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda whose constituency serves nearly 60 percent of Kisii town residents, plans to sponsor 600 youth from his constituency for biker operators - 'Boda Boda' job opportunities in Qatar.
According to Zaheer, courier services is a big industry in Qatar that has employed thousands of youth through e-commerce.
The MP targets to have 600 youth, 100 from each of the six Wards, seeking job opportunities. "I will sponsor some staff from the CDF office who will accompany the first group of 20 at the end of this week."
"I was in Qatar, had a study on the industry and I can confirm that Courier Service on that side works perfectly. I have few friends operating such companies and we have partnered to ensure that we get to offer our people some job opportunities."
"We acknowledge what our boda boda riders are doing here in Kenya, particularly in the rural set up where we have a number of poor roads. Going to Qatar as riders will offer our youths more job opportunities."
The MP says that Kenya has had diminishing formal job openings hence the need to look into ways and means of aiding the unemployed youth.
"The fact is that the Country cannot absorb all our youths into formal employment. We have graduates who are languishing at home. The case of diminishing land in Kisii makes matters worse for our people."
The interested riders will be required to have a photocopy of their Curriculum Vitae, passport, driving license and good Conduct.
Those who had shown interest had October 28, 2023 as the deadline for submission of their documents at the Constituency's offices.
Zoom interviews will be conducted tomorrow; Monday with their prospective employers from Qatar. Successful candidates will be leaving the Country beginning November.
"No cash is required, travelling tickets will fully be paid by the MP. We are strictly having the exercise for Nyaribari Chache residents," said Zaheer.
