Furor as Senators marvel at Sh1.1m chair at centre of William Oduol's impeachment trial

The 'presidential' chair was presented to Senate as evidence of embezzlement of funds by Oduol on day two of the trial of his impeachment on Thursday, June 22.

Members of the Siaya County Assembly have accused Oduol of forcing his staff to refurbish his office which allegedly cost Sh18 million, and a whooping Sh1.1 million spent on the purchase of the chair.

Oduol however denied the charges saying that he did not order anyone to renovate his office and that the chair is an 'average' one that should not have cost that much.

He added that some of the witnesses presented during the hearing at the county level denied being forced to renovate his office.

"When one of the witnesses, Jared abayo, was asked if he was forced to renovate my office, he denied and the committee removed and completely ignored his statement. He confirmed I did not have any role in the procurement of renovations in my office," said Oduol.

Senate will make the final decision on whether to uphold or overturn the impeachment against Oduol.
