Kenya on Monday recorded 258 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,137 raising the country's caseload to 240,430.
In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 8.5 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,414,857.
Out of the new patients, 142 are male, whereas 116 are female, with the youngest carrier being a three-year-old baby, and the oldest aged 102.
Of the new cases, 17 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.
Distribution
In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 113, Nakuru 17, Murang’a 15, Kiambu 13, Kitui 11, Kajiado 10, Meru 9, Garissa and Uasin Gishu 7 cases each, Tana River 5, Marsabit and Bungoma 4 cases each, Machakos and Mandera 3 cases each, Bomet and Laikipia 2 cases each.
Elgeyo Marakwet, Kakamega, Kisii, Nandi, Nyamira, Nyeri and Tharaka Nithi a case each.
Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 4,795 after night (9) patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.
Total recoveries now stand at 229,006 after 923 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 861 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 62 are from various health facilities in the country.
Of the total recoveries, 185,902 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 43,104 are from various hospitals countrywide.
A total of 1,825 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,546 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
One hundred and fifty-one (151) patients are in the ICU, 87 of whom are on ventilatory support and 53 on supplemental oxygen. 11 patients are on observation.
Another 752 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 691 of them in general wards and 61 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Kenya has at September 5, 2021, administered 2,870,392 vaccines across the country.
Of these, the total first doses are 2,057,080 while the second doses are 813,312.
The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 243,341, others 244,678, Health Workers 135,165, Teachers 123,612 while Security Officers are at 68,684.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 39.5 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.0 per cent.
