Onions aren’t only good for your food or salad. In fact some of the best beauty hacks are found in natural ingredients like rice, aloe Vera, onions and ginger which you can easily find.

Although some people aren’t comfortable using onion because of its strong scent, it’s still a popular hair treatment hack and you know why? Because it actually works.

Here are some amazing benefits you’ll get when you start experimenting with onions for your hair needs.

1. It prevents hair fall

Hair is prone to breakage. You might have experienced alopecia, balding or any other type of hair fall. Onion oil is a good remedy for that because it has essential vitamins for your hair like vitamin B6 and it’s also packed with minerals that prevent your hair from breaking excessively. It also stimulates keratin which is key for strong hair.

2. Helps prevent infections

Your scalp can be a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi which cause infections. That bacteria can also clog your pores and prevent your hair from growing properly. Once a scalp infection starts it can be hard to treat. You might even be forced to shave when it gets severe. Onion oil has antibacterial properties that prevent and treat conditions like dandruff. It also works well when you’re dealing with lice. Its strong scent repels these bugs and you’ll have a fresh lice-free scalp with just a few treatments.

3. It promotes hair growth

Onion oil will help you achieve your hair goals faster. It’s a scalp stimulant because it contains sulfur and it increases blood flow. Those scalp stimulating properties are great for adding volume and lengthening your hair.

4. It prevents premature greying

A sign of ageing on skin is wrinkling. For hair, the main sign is when your strands start turning grey. Premature ageing happens because of genetics, stress and lifestyle habits like smoking. Onions prevent this by pumping antioxidants and flavonoids to your scalp. Onion oil is great even for general hair upkeep because it helps balance the pH of your scalp, which keeps your hair looking healthy at all times.

Pointers:

Some of the ways you can prepare some onion oil is by mixing with coconut oil, castor oil or olive oil. You can mix in all the oils or use one at a time as well.

If you’re using one at a time, blend some chopped onions until you get a paste. Pour the paste into a straining cloth to get the onion juice out without any pulp. Mix in one of the oils and massage your scalp with the mixture for a few minutes. Let the oil sit on your scalp for about 30 minutes to an hour then wash it off with some shampoo.

Another method of preparation is to chop the onions then blend them into a paste. Pour the paste in a pan and mix in other oils. Let the paste cook on low heat until the onions turn brown then strain with a cloth. Apply the oil to your scalp and let it sit for some time, or overnight, then wash with mild shampoo.

If the smell is too strong, add a few drops of lavender or lemon oil
