English Premier League by ChezaCash: Race for top-four, survival hots up

The Manchester Derby is upon us [COURTESY]

EPL week 29 will witness some breathtaking action as the race for a top-four finish and relegation dogfight intensifies with just nine matches before the 2019/20 campaign comes to a close.

Liverpool will certainly clinch this season’s title, their first in 30 years. The team needs just 12 more points, which translates to 4 wins to be confirmed as league champions. The Reds have been in a staggering form this season, only losing to Watford this whole season.

Norwich City, West Ham, Watford, Aston Villa, AFC Bournemouth and Brighton are all fighting to remain in the top tier, all the six teams are separated by a few points and any of them can go down at the end of the season. This makes week 29 and subsequent matches involving the drop battlers a must-watch.

Manchester Derby

The Manchester Derby at Old Trafford will arguably be the biggest clash of the weekend with United welcoming their city rivals Manchester City. With the league title out of reach, both teams will be fighting for top-four finish although Man City have been banned from UEFA Champions League football for the next two seasons.

The two sides have already met thrice this season, twice in the Carabao Cup semis where City won the first leg staged at Old Trafford before United avenged in the return leg played at Old Trafford. The Citizens, however, progressed to the final on aggregate score. United won the first leg league clash staged at City’s backyard.

Both teams have few injury concerns heading into the Sunday duel, United will be without long-term absentees Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford while Aymeric Laporte who suffered an injury setback during the Champions League duel against Real Madrid will sit out for City.

Chelsea vs Everton

Chelsea will welcome Everton to Stamford Bridge in the other big match of week 29. Both teams have not been at their best this campaign. Chelsea are all but out of the UEFA Champions League after socking in three goals against Bayern Munich at home last week in a round of 16 first-leg tie.

Everton, on the other hand, had to fire coach Marco Silva after a dismal start to the 2019/20 season, his successor Carlo Ancelotti has done well in steadying the ship although the team is still inconsistent.

On paper, Everton has an edge heading into the game. They have won two of their last five encounters while Chelsea have managed just one win. The other two matches have ended in draws. Chelsea’s home form this season has been poor and this may just give Carlo Ancelloti’s men confidence heading into the Sunday showdown.

Injury news

N’golo Kante and Christian Pulisic are out of the game with injuries. For Everton, Carlo Ancelotti has no injury concern and has all his best players available for the duel.
