Secondary schools in Kakamega County have conducted prayers for candidates sitting this year’s national examinations.

On Saturday, parents made their last visits to schools as church ministers conducted prayers for candidates due to begin their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations this week.

Catholic and Anglican Church of Kenya sponsored schools used the weekend to pray for candidates, as errand students were reconciled with teachers in some schools.

Schools that conducted prayers included Kakamega High School, Butere Girls, Butula Boys, Bulimbo Girls, St Peters Mumias High School, Mwihila, Eshinutsa and Mukumu Girls.

Bishop Ben Salala of Anglican Church of Kenya Mumias Diocese preached in various schools and wished the candidates well.

Salala said it was time teachers dined together with the candidates as symbol of unity and reconciliation.

At St Peters Mumias, the principal Godfrey Owuor said the candidates were set for the examinations that begin on Tuesday.

"We have prepared our candidates and they are ready to face the examinations," said Owuori who was addressing parents after prayers.

Owuor said he expects improved results as teachers had completed the syllabus on time.

At Butula Boys, the principal Wycliffe Matalanga led teachers and parents in wishing the candidates the best.

The school also organised a joint meal between teachers and candidates to celebrate the end of the four-year stay at the school.

The Kenya Secondary School Head-teachers Association Western branch chairman Kahi Indimuli urged the members not to move out of their stations during the examination period.

Western Provincial Director of Education Kenneth Misoi said appointment of supervisors and invigilators had been finalised.

Misoi explained that the briefing of the officers who will be overseeing the examinations in all the districts was complete, adding that rehearsals are now set to take place in all schools.

"We has given out instructions on how examinations will be conducted," said Misoi.
