Police in Macalder, Migori County have arrested an assistant chief and his brother for allegedly killing their elder sibling.
The two are accused of killing the victim following a conflict over the management of a gold mine pit.
Nyatike North Deputy County Commissioner Paul Langat said the incident occurred at Kalangi village on December 8, 2022.
"It is alleged that the suspects fatally beat up their 52-year-old brother following a dispute over who has the right to manage a gold mine pit near their homestead in Kalangi," Langat told The Standard.
The victim, identified as Jacob Otieno, was taken to Sori Lakeside Hospital for emergency treatment. He was later transferred to the Migori County Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 11.
Nyatike North Deputy County Commissioner Paul Langat said the suspects behind Otieno's death were arrested and arraigned on Wednesday, December 14.
Police requested for seven days to detain the suspects as investigations continue.
"The court allowed the request by police. A postmortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of Otieno's death," said Langat.
The suspects will be taken to court again next week for plea-taking.
