Police in Mtwapa, Kilifi County on Wednesday morning arrested Kilifi South MP Ken Chonga, his aide Victor Katana and Kilifi County speaker Teddy Mwambire.

The three were arrested after police dispersed their gathering in Mtwapa as they geared to hit the streets in part of the Azimio protests.

The Azimio coalition announced to Kenyans to join them in a three day anti-government protests, against the cost of living which they say has become unbearable.

The arrest comes in the wake of an announcement by Police IG Japhet Koome who on Tuesday night outlawed the protests saying the police had not been notified as per the law.

In Nairobi, Police arrested two people who were taking part in the protests in the Mathare constituency.
