A former Chief Government Pathologist, Alex Olumbe, has died aged 60.
Confirming the news of his demise, the family said Olumbe died on Wednesday, April 12, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Brisbane, Australia.
"He has been ill for some time. We received news of his death two days ago through. As a family, we are still waiting for more details from the hospital," a family member told The Standard on phone.
The family is awaiting a postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. They are in the initial stages of making arrangements to have his body moved to Kenya for a befitting burial.
"We are at a loss. He was a charming person and a man of few words. We will remember him as a disciplinarian who valued education," Frank Aunda, the family spokesperson said.
Olumbe was appointed Chief Government Pathologist in 1998, a job he would resign from in 2001.
He then relocated abroad to do similar work and has been in Australia until his demise.
During former President Daniel Moi's tenure, Olumbe served as Forensic Pathologist Minister in the Health Department from 1993 to 1998.
The former Chief pathologist held a Masters and a Bachelor of Science in Surgery from the University of Nairobi.
