A multi-agency team in Mombasa has confiscated 1,265 litres of expired cooking oil packaged in 20-litre jerricans.

The seizure which was led by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided Denco Godown in Changamwe Sub County Saturday night and confiscated the consignment before being repackaged.

Mombasa County criminal investigations boss's Anthony Muriithi confirmed to the Standard the seizure saying one suspect was apprehended and is helping in the investigations.

The CCIO boss said they got information from confidential sources which prompted their swift action.

"We thank the members of the public for continuing sharing information with security agencies. It's the only way to make Mombasa safe. We urge them to come forward and share with us and we will act accordingly at the same time treating the information confidential," said Muriithi.

The CCIO boss sent a strong warning to the cartels behind the racket of supplying poisonous products unfit for human consumption that their days were numbered.

He further said the suspected woman who was arrested will face the charges once the investigations are complete.

The cooking oil which was manufactured on December 18, 2017, and expired on December 18, 2018, according to details; was to be repackaged for sale to the unsuspecting public.

Other officials who took part in the seizure are drawn from public health, Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kev's and Anti-Counterfeit Authority officials.
