Socialite and businesswoman Vera Sidika was trending on social media after calling out restaurants over the challenges plus-size women encounter.
She took to her Instagram page and posted a video highlighting the difficulties she faces as a plus-size woman in public spaces.
In the video, she is seen walking around a lavish restaurant and trying out different seats. She expressed that restaurants, hospitality, and entertainment spaces should consider curvier women to ensure their comfort.
"This is one of the biggest struggles in my day-to-day life. Today was a beautiful day, so I decided to head out for lunch. Of course, I cannot say I am surprised this happened-it normally does-but I am just raising awareness. It is 2025, and people come in all sizes and shapes. The struggles we go through out here aren't funny," the bubbly Vera said.
She emphasised that establishments should have larger seats to accommodate curvier women during their outings and lavish experiences.
"Dear restaurants, we need bigger seats ... I think it is high time restaurants prioritised thick girls like us so we can have our meals properly. Thick girls' lives matter," Sidika said.
Nonetheless, Vera Sidika raises a valid point. There has been an ongoing conversation about whether restaurants should modify some of their seating to make spaces more comfortable for curvier women.
Vera Sidika has always been open about her cosmetic procedures and how she achieved her unique look. In October 2022, she shared that her body was originally natural. She said she had always been curvy since high school and even earned a nickname because of it. The mother of two added that the use of contraceptives contributed to her increased size.
"Yes, I have always had a big booty and was always shy about it until I came to Nairobi, where everyone made me feel like it was so precious. The thing is, I gained a lot of weight because of contraceptives, so my nyash got bigger too. My high school mates will tell you my nickname was Wezere," Vera said.
