Miss World Africa 2018 Quiin Abenakyo has ditched her weave after persuasion from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
Praising the beauty, President Museveni wrote that he was happy that Abenakyo had heeded his advice, dropped the weave and “re-asserted her African identity” by going natural.
“When we met in Entebbe, I advised Abenakyo to keep her hair natural. I am glad she heeded the advice and re-asserted her African identity. God beautifully created Africans, there is no need to add or subtract anything,” he stated.
The Entebbe meeting between the two happened shortly after her arrival from China where she won the continental crown in the Miss World 2018 contest.
The president stated that even though he was happy for the milestone the newly crowned beauty queen had achieved, he had one concern about her.

“Abenakyo is indeed a tall, beautiful Musoga girl, my only concern is that she was wearing Indian hair. We must show African beauty in its natural form,” wrote Museveni.
The Head of State nonetheless lauded the Miss Uganda’s parents for raising her with values.
“I must commend Abenakyo's parents for raising her with values. Many young people today rush into promiscuity and ruin their lives, yet a little patience and completing school would give them a foundation on which to enjoy the rest of their lives with their spouses.”
Abenako made history by becoming the first Miss Uganda to make it to the top five finalists in the Miss World contest.
