One of two women busted shoplifting at a supermarket in the Kasarani Sunton area was arrested at a church where she had run to seek 'redemption.'
Caroline Wambui and Mary Wambui were both arraigned before Makadara law courts. They were charged with stealing toothpaste and other items of unknown value on and before April 6.
Prior to the incident, the manager of the supermarket noticed that many items that had just been restocked were missing and uncounted for.
On reviewing the CCTV footage, three ladies with suspicious moves were captured picking items from the shelves and stashing them inside their undies.
Staff were alerted and shown the footage, and most of them identified the suspects. On the sixth day of April, the two women checked into the supermarket, picked items and hid some in their clothes.
The manager followed them and greeted them as he showed them their footage. They admitted that they were the women captured.
They were politely asked to go to the office, but Caroline managed to escape and ran to the Congolese church within the area, pretending to have gone to seek the kingdom of God.
Ushers who had been tipped off of the happenings waited for the summon to end before asking her to go to the office where she was arrested.
When they were presented in court, they pleaded not guilty. They have since been released on a cash bail of Sh5,000.
The matter will be mentioned on April 22.
